Two stamps were designed, one with a child crossing the roadon the hand of an adult and the other with a baby child in a safetyseat. To make the stamp somewhat more child-friendly a teddy bear waspositionated in safety belts next to the baby. And that was the bigmistake, because children of this age have to be placed in a safetyseat in reversed position. The Teddy bear beside showed that this wasnot the case here. A bad thing for a stamp the should promote trafficsafety. That's why the New Zealand post decided to withdraw this issueand replaced it with a edited version without Teddy bear. The stampswere printed in the Netherlands by Joh. Enschedé in sheets and insouvenir sheets.961 of the stamps have been sold accidentally by two post offices inNew Zealand. The Souvenir sheets never even reached New Zealand,however some of them were given away as relation presents by Joh.Enschede prior to release. These souvenir sheets are extremely rareitems.
