MAY 6th 1840. FIRST DAY OF USE OF THE 1d BLACK. PLATE 2 and LETTERED BL. A CHOICE, FULL MARGINED EXAMPLE TIED TO PART LETTERSHEET BY AN UPRIGHT DOUBLE STRIKE OF THE MALTESE CROSS IN RED. Addressed to 'Mrs Wilson Ballymena'. Perimiter faults and reverse splits to back flaps reinforced with hinges in places. minor overall soiling. At lower left a very fine - superb complete strike of a BALLYMENA open town steel circular date stamp for May 6th 1840 - THE FIRST DAY OF USE OF THE 1d BLACK. The lettersheet is missing the letter content and no other postmarks or notations are visible. Nevertheless a remarkable piece of postal history. THE BORING, BUT IMPORTANT, INFORMATION WHEN BIDDING.
